Please tell our readers your story about what motivated you to become a real estate agent:
Like most agents I kinda fell into the business. I had been a teacher in England for five years. I married an American and landed in California and was looking for another profession. I bought a home in Belmont, California and became friends with my agent. She convinced me to go into Real Estate.
What do you enjoy about being a Real Estate agent?
My teaching background prepared me well for the real estate profession. In the classroom the teacher is in charge, runs the show, educates her students and herself in the process. Real estate is like that – I love that I get to run my own business, I’m learning all the time, I set my own timetable. I also get to educate clients and I love the negotiation process and winning for the client. In 2008 I partnered with Olivia Edwards, a former President of our local Realtor Association, and together we formed the Platinum Group to better serve our clients
Do you have any heartwarming real estate stories that you have experienced that you would like to share with our audience?
There are so many! Of course, we are helping people with their problems all the time, helping them get the home they want, or the highest price possible when we are working with a seller, but I have to say one of the most important stories is one about a friend of mine. She was a senior citizen living on the equity in her home and was running out of money very quickly. We knew that eventually she would have nothing left and would have to sell her home and then where would she go? We heard about a program where she could sell her home and buy a condo using a reverse mortgage. We sold her home and she purchased a beautiful condo close to the water in San Mateo using the reverse mortgage program. She now has no mortgage payments and every time I see her she tells me how happy she is and how grateful she is to have such a beautiful place to live.
Do you have any funny real estate stories that you have experienced that you would like to share with our audience?
You definitely have to have a good sense of humor and a thick skin if you want to be in real estate. I was showing a home that had a deck and I dropped the front door key between the cracks in the deck. My client started to laugh, I was so embarrassed. It took me an hour to find a way under the deck, which was on a hill, to retrieve the key. Thank goodness I had an understanding client – she was so cool, she told me jokes as I was trudging through the underground in high heels. No…she didn’t buy the home! But we found another one the following week.
How do you use RealScout to help grow and promote your business:
We were tired of paying for leads from our own listings. With the National Portals, every agent and their brother is up there competing for the client – and using our listing to do it. With RealScout our pretty faces are on every listing alert that goes out. Ours and only ours. RealScout has given us the ability to stay in front of our clients in a way that has more value to them. The alerts are personalized and because the client can revise or change their search so that they feel more in control of the search. And they get more accurate data. They don’t run into a property, fall in love with online and then find out it sold…last year! With RealScout we are the only agents the clients see on the alerts. We like it that way.
How have your client’s responded to using RealScout?
We want to work with serious buyers – our time is precious – and with RealScout it’s easier to know where the client is in the buying process. We often get a message from the client after an alert goes out, asking to see a property or asking for more information. We can respond quickly and the clients loves that we are on top of their search. They love that they can do a more personalized search, one that they can really refine and make their own.
Have you ever sold a home with RealScout? Please tell us about that experience.
Actually, we can attribute at least three sales to RealScout that we probably wouldn’t have made without it. RealScout allows us to know immediately if our clients have changed their search or are looking in a different area. When we see that, we call them immediately to find out what’s going on. Last month we sold a $1.8 million home in Cupertino – I know, out of our area – but the client didn’t want us to refer them out, they wanted to stick with us. We closed that one in 7 days.
What are your favorite features about using RealScout Pro?
When a prospect or client uses the search on RealScout they can only do it by signing on with an agent! We are the brand they are going to see on a daily basis. We don’t have to fight for market share. We are the brand, and that’s priceless. We love the RealScout maps because they are so simple to use. The client can search by, MLS number, by address, by ‘Nice to haves’ and its so user friendly. Also, clients love that they can search an area using the API score of schools in an area. The dashboard feature is amazing. It allows us to see who is opening the alerts, when, and what time. It shows us how many clients are opening the alerts we send. We know at a glance who are the lookers and which clients are serious – and we know who to spend our time with. That’s a super advantage for any agent. For example, a client who had been dormant for a few months suddenly started looking more seriously, we called them immediately!
